Audrey Hepburn and her lasting influence on fashion, elegance and grace

April 17 2020 – Elisabeth Oas

Fashion is evolving rapidly, and we see new trends rolling in every day that may have looked absurd a few years ago. From platform crocs to leather bodysuits, there have been many trends that couldn’t make their place in the market. However, amidst all the chaos, some styles have stood the test of time, and they make the heart of the fashion industry.

When we talk about timeless classics and elegance, there is one name that stands out more than anyone. Yes, I am talking about the ever graceful Audrey Hepburn who revolutionized fashion through her poise and grace. She is an Academy Award winning actress, and her films touched hearts around the world. But perhaps she is best known for her sense of style, and her lasting influence on fashion and elegance.

Throughout her reign in Hollywood, she experimented with styles and her keen fashion sense influenced thousands of women around the globe. Audrey Hepburn and Givenchy are often talked about together, and she was Givenchy's muse in every sense. From her iconic black dress in Breakfast at Tiffany's to her Chantilly lace dress, she always relied on Givenchy for her styling, and we have to admit, they worked well together.

It has been three decades since Audrey passed away, but her sense of style still has an influence on the fashion world. Audrey was famously quoted while saying, ‘Elegance is the only beauty that never fades’, and her elegance did indeed made her eternal. In this article, I will be talking about a few amazing eyelashes by Halcyon Now, which is a company dedicated to elegance and timeless beauty and all their products are crafted with utmost attention to detail. Today, I want to chat about some of her most iconic looks and how they are still a significant part of our world.

The little black dress

If there is one thing Audrey is always associated with, it has to be the iconic little black dress that she wore in Breakfast at Tiffany's. The figure-hugging, sleeveless dress was designed by the maestro Hubert de Givenchy himself, and Audrey styled it with an elegant pearl necklace and an embellished barrette to complete the look. The dress became an instant style icon, and every woman wanted to own at least one such dress, The beauty of the black dress is how seamlessly it can transition from day to night, and how it can look gorgeous in any era without ever going out of style.

The boat neck cut

One of the styles that Audrey immortalized was the boat neck dress, also called the ballet neck. She wore a boat neckline to the Oscars while receiving her award for Roman's Holiday, and make the style an instant hit. Givenchy designed the dress for Audrey's petite figure and gorgeous collar bones, and the dress became iconic. No one could take their eyes off the beautiful neckline and the dress while Audrey delivered her speech at the awards, and the boat neckline is still a trendy style for formal gowns and dresses. If you have broad shoulders and prominent collar bones, a ballet neck is like hitting the jackpot, and you can thank Audrey for the idea.

The headscarf

Audrey was famous for wearing full headscarves, and she made them a staple in her style. Before she stylized scarves, they were only wrapped around necks. Audrey took a common accessory and gave it a spin by wearing it to frame here well-defined petite face. She was seen wearing scarves in movies as well as real life, and this practice has been adopted by lots of celebrities nowadays.

Experimenting with Men’s clothes

Audrey was not afraid to push the limits, and she experimented with men's closets while styling herself. In her movie Roman's holiday, she was seen wearing a men's button-down shirt stylized with a scarf and an open collar, and she made it look incredibly chic and feminine. This look is very relevant even today, and a button-down shirt looks elegant when paired with a skirt or some jeans.

Makeup

Now that we have talked about her fashion sense, let's have a look at her classic makeup, and how it influences women today, Audrey Hepburn famously wore a bold cat eye, bold brows and fluttering lashes to achieve the broad eyed, dreamy look. We all know that bold brows are all the rage these days, and we see models rocking bushy eyebrows and winged eyeliners all the time. The lashes alone are worth a mention, as they gave her eyes a defined and elegant look which all women strive for. If you want something as lightweight yet impactful as Audrey Hepburn, the Delicate Spender eyelashes by Halcyon Now deliver just that. With a delicate clear band and featherweight mink fibres, these lashes will give you the most effortless yet chic results.

I also quickly want to mention two other eyelashes by Halcyon Now, Modern Muse and Charmed. Modern Muse is a gorgeous curled, dense lash that blends in with your natural lashes to make them look dreamy and elegant. Charmed can be the perfect addition to your everyday makeup routine, thanks to the incredibly natural finish. It doesn’t hide your lashes rather elevates their appearance for an amazing look.

It is quite fascinating to think that 50 years have passed since Audrey Hepburn introduced us to her style, and it has been relevant ever since. It is not uncommon to see celebrities taking inspiration from Audrey, and many women want to dress in the attire popularized by Audrey. She was not afraid to experiment with looks and styles, and she didn't stop at anything to achieve her style. She went against the cultural norms, always wore what her fashion sense dictated and taught us to do the same.

Not only was she a brilliant actress and a fashion icon, but Audrey was also a humanitarian with a heart of gold. She worked with UNICEF, helped the less fortunate in Africa and was always vocal about the importance of kindness. She once said, ‘For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.’

I think it is justified to say that Audrey Hepburn was a gift for the world, and the fashion industry is lucky to have such an icon for future generations. She may be gone, but her sense of style still prevails in the world, and it will do so for the years to come.
